Organising an Already Organised Wardrobe, A Calm Approach to Colour Coding

When your wardrobe is already “organised”
For many people, the wardrobe is already organised.
Clothes are folded, items are hung, and everything is generally in the right place. But even then, something can still feel slightly off. Not quite as easy or calm as it could be.
This is something I often see in homes across the Wirral and surrounding areas. The wardrobe is not chaotic, but it does not quite feel effortless either.
Different levels of organisation
Not everyone needs the same level of organisation.
For some, simply having clothes off the floor and neatly put away is enough. For others, there is a desire for something more refined. A space that feels calm, intentional, and easy to move through.
Neither is right or wrong. It depends entirely on what works for you.
Should you colour code your wardrobe?
Colour coding is often seen as the next step once a wardrobe is already organised.
It can:
- Make it easier to find items
- Create a sense of visual calm
- Help you see what you actually have
But only if it works for you.
How to colour code your wardrobe simply
If you decide to colour code, keep it simple.
Start by grouping clothing by type, such as tops, dresses and trousers.
Within each section, arrange items from light to dark.
Keep similar tones together, including whites, neutrals and colours.
It does not need to be perfect to be effective.
What matters more than colour coding
In many wardrobes I work on across the Wirral, the biggest improvements do not come from colour coding.
They come from:
- Removing items that are no longer worn
- Creating space between clothes
- Making everyday items easy to reach
Colour coding is a refinement, not a solution on its own.
Let your wardrobe work for you
Your wardrobe should reflect your life as it is now.
Not a past version of you. Not an ideal version of you. Just you, as you are.
Final thought
Organisation is not about creating something that looks perfect.
It is about creating something that feels easy to use, every single day.
It is not about perfection. It is about creating a place for everything to belong and keeping what truly serves you.
